Welcome to Teaching Outdoors eeCourse.  This course is designed to equip educators with the knowledge, skills, tools and resources to take environmental education learning outdoors. 


This course is designed to provide educators with the background knowledge and skills necessary to ground future professional learning experiences in the sound principles of environmental education.

Objectives and Expectations

By the end of this course, you will be able to: 

  • Explain what environmental education is and delineate the five objectives of environmental education.

  • List and describe five important factors in creating an appropriate, safe EE learning environment.

  • Create recommendations for EE programming that facilitate broad accessibility and are designed to be developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and culturally appropriate for diverse audiences.

  • Select and implement appropriate environmental education instructional strategies.

  • Select, adapt, and/or develop effective educational materials based on established principles for EE materials.


As a student in this course, it is expected that you:

  • Commit the time required to complete all readings, assignments, and assessments.

  • Use appropriate grammar and mechanics throughout the course.

  • Complete Modules 1-5 and their associated assignments, as well as submit the final course assessment. You will have 7 weeks to complete the course upon enrollment.

Completing Tasks and Assignments

Throughout the course, documents will be provided in the form of Google Docs.  You can either download as a Word document or "Make a Copy" under the File menu to edit it as your own. Assignments can be submitted as Google Docs by using the link-sharing feature. Assignments can also be submitted by attaching Word documents.  If you have questions or would prefer another option, please contact the course moderator.



Prerequisites

  • USEE Introduction Module (EE101)

  • Experience working in education is not required but highly encouraged.

  • None

Grading

  • Periodic assessments throughout each module must be completed with at least 80% accuracy or a score of 2 as indicated on the scoring guide provided.

  • To receive a certificate of completion, you must complete all assignments and receive the scores as indicated above.

Important Dates

  • While you may work at your own pace, please keep in mind the midterm requirement and the final deadline of the semester. Refer to the Course Calendar for those dates of the current semester.

  • You may work at your own pace to complete this course. 

  • Add in language about deadlines, any synchronous checkpoints.
